Co-hosts Rena Bright of @thecalmcoach.ie and Sarah Walsh of @happystudentshappyteacher on Instagram, bring us this interesting new podcast for teachers.
What is the motivation for the podcast?
We are both primary school teachers who have had our own struggles with mental health and we are passionate about spreading the message that it’s ok not to be ok and that people aren’t alone in their struggles.
We see the current difficulties that exist in the Irish education system and we want to talk about how this affects teachers and their students, how we can put better personal and professional boundaries in place and how all we can communicate how the current system could be more inclusive of all teachers and their backgrounds or struggles.
We also want to break the stigmas that still exist around mental health in Ireland and in particular within the Education system. We want to start important conversations and help to empower people to take action and to make positive changes to improve their mental health and quality of life.
We both share a lot of information and resources on our social media pages and we just felt that this podcast was the next step for us.
Who should listen?
We think the podcast is an important listen for any teacher who has always wanted to be part of a real conversation about teacher wellbeing, but especially teachers who have struggled at any point with their own mental health, maintaining their own wellbeing, burnout, overwhelm, imposter syndrome or a frustration with working within the modern education system.
What should we expect to hear about?
We are hoping to talk about a lot of issues that we feel are relevant to teacher wellbeing and mental health. The 1st episode will mostly be an introduction to us and our stories and the motivation behind creating the podcast.
Throughout the 10 episodes in season 1, we will talk about how we maintain our wellbeing and how teachers can implement strategies to help maintain their own wellbeing from the perspective of several interesting guests from various educational and mental health backgrounds.
We will talk about goal setting, how to set boundaries, about maintaining a healthy work-life balance and we will share some of the tools and resources that we have found helpful and so much more. We hope to do a mix of solo episodes, where we discuss topics, and episodes with guests relevant to topics we are discussing.
Anything else?
We will be very active on the podcast’s Instagram page which is @teachersintherapypod and on the solo episodes of the podcast, we will have a section where people can ask us questions/seek advice via a question box on Instagram or via email.
